“Incorrect guest list”: 1,394 people in the world quarantined

Because a visitor to the club tested positive for Covid-19, 1,394 people in Bern must be quarantined. A club operator blames the authorities.

Due to a guest who tested positive, a total of 1,394 people in the Bern clubs “Taxiclub”, “Cuba Bar Bern” and “Kapitel-Bollwerk” must be quarantined. The canton also ordered the immediate closure of “Bar Cuba.” Write in a press release.

The 1,009 people who were in the “Cuba Bar Bern” on the weekend of October 3 and 4, 2020, have to be quarantined due to an incorrect guest list, writes the canton.

According to the press release, visitors from the other two clubs should also be quarantined if they have been there since midnight Sunday morning. According to the “Kapitel-Bollwerk”, this statement is not correct: “The infected person was only there from 6 in the morning until 7 in the morning,” says a spokesman. Anyone who has previously been to the club is not affected.

Are they 1009 or 181 cases?

At the “Cuba Bar Berna” one is surprised with the order to close the canton. According to Samuel Güven, who is in charge of the bar, only 181 people were in the bar on the weekend in question, they accidentally transmitted an incorrect data record and therefore informed the visitors for a whole week, not just a weekend.

The data chaos occurred because someone in the canton had not found the names on a list. Then he sent the visitor list for the whole week. “All of a sudden, I had someone else on the phone and they said they were going to shut down.”

The canton does not understand this line of argument at all. “The person in charge knows that he has submitted incorrect data. We have been trying to contact him all day and have only been in contact with him for half an hour,” says Gundekar Giebel, media spokesman for the health and wellness directorate. Communication with “Cuba Bar Bern” was “long and difficult”.

Contact tracing has already started

The club operator is obliged to be available within two hours to ensure follow-up of contacts. That didn’t work at the “Cuba Bar Bern”. “We had to act.” He doesn’t yet know if the new list Güven claims to have submitted contains reliable data, Giebel says.

This raises the question of what should happen to the 828 people who, according to the club, were not at the “Cuba Bar Bern” on the weekend in question. At the moment, Berner Contact Tracing is in the process of contacting and quarantining them.

“If we get reliable data, the quarantine will be lifted immediately,” says Giebel. However, what is currently available is useless and contact tracing has already started.
