Anschober demands more discipline – Wiener Zeitung Online

Ballots do not always facilitate work on certain issues, “Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) said on Friday at the presentation of the new Corona traffic light. He was referring to disputes between Vienna’s Health Councilor Peter Hacker ( SPÖ) and Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP). “Therefore, I assume that we will work together again from Monday,” Anschober said, expressly emphasizing that he personally cooperates very well with Vienna. And: “I also see progress in terms of speed in Vienna “in the management of contact persons. The Ages (Agency for Health and Food Safety) offers support for large groups, this applies to all federal states.

The mayor of Vienna was also reassured and made it clear that Vienna will of course continue to work on all committees and therefore also on the crisis team of the Interior Ministry. This is also necessary because a joint effort will be needed to break the very high “basic trend” in the development of coronavirus infection figures, Anschober said.

Covid-19 cases increased by 23 percent in one week

The traffic light changed to orange in 29 districts and yellow in 30 districts of Austria on Friday. Also, nobody is red. There were 1,100 new Sars-CoV-2 infections and 10,307 active cases in Austria on Friday. That’s a 23 percent increase compared to the previous week. On the positive side, it should be noted that hospitalizations only increased by 8 percent, the number of those who received intensive care by just 3 percent. The average age of the patients is 37 years, while in April it was 59 years. This also explains the milder course of the disease.

Austria is currently far from the bottlenecks in hospitals: there are still 6,627 normal beds available, 405 are currently occupied. Currently 103 patients are cared for in intensive care units and there are 627 intensive care beds available for corona patients.

Now it’s about getting as many as possible to follow the measurements – keep your distance, wear masks, just meet friends outside if possible, limit private parties as much as possible, install the Stop Corona app. “We decide with our behavior about the jobs of the future,” emphasized the Minister of Health, who called on young people in particular to adapt their behavior, after all it was about future apprenticeships and youth employment. “The duration of the health crisis will determine the economic impact.”

The government continues to rely on local measures such as the suspension of soccer matches in regions with a high number of cases. Anchober left open if and what stricter measures the government is planning. “I cannot and will not open this drawer.”

Where is the greatest risk of infection? In 35 percent of the cases from last week to Oct. 4, the source of the infection was unknown, Herzog said, and only 5 percent was related to travel.

Home and leisure as sources of contagion

The cluster configuration shows that the most frequent infections occur in the self-responsible area, that is, at home and in free time, explained Ulrich Herzog, chairman of the traffic lights commission. The commission examined the age cohort under 25 years of age. It became clear that children under 15 years of age are the most infected at home; they are usually asymptomatic and therefore have a lower risk of infection. Those over 15 years of age are more frequently infected in their free time and show higher symptoms.
