A 62-year-old Afghan was sentenced to life in prison for murder in Vienna’s criminal district court on Friday.
In November, the man killed his 50-year-old wife with 26 stab wounds in the shared apartment in Vienna-Favoriten in front of the children. On Friday, the defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Vienna Criminal Court for murder. Despite the overwhelming burden of proof, he did not confess. The judgment is final.

Even before the crime, there were always arguments between the couple. The 17-year-old son of the family had already contacted the youth welfare service before the bloody event. The situation worsened on November 27, 2019. The husband stabbed his wife a total of 26 times.

The defendant did not confess at trial. Therefore, there is no reason for moderation. The jury’s verdict for murder and duress was unanimous. “For such a brutal and senseless crime, the sentence can only be life,” Judge Andreas Böhm said.
After consulting with his lawyer, the man waived his right to appeal. Therefore, the sentence is final.
