Tyrol AK President Erwin Zangerl proposes a “holiday voucher” throughout Austria for locals, which should support winter tourism.
“A winter aid package is needed for national tourism, including a financial subsidy in the form of a holiday voucher that can be used for tourist businesses and that allows Austrians and their families to enjoy a ‘home holiday’ in winter “, says the president of the AK of Tyrol, Erwin Zangerl.
For Zangerl, it is clear that this is an important step to support both companies and employees in a meaningful way, while at the same time offering locals the opportunity to go on vacation to the country. “We have to take every opportunity to stimulate tourism, especially in Tyrol. Disputes over individual ski areas do not help at all, we need suggestions that help everyone,” said Zangerl.

Zangerl’s request is directed to the federal government, which should prepare a winter aid package to promote tourism. Zangerl: “Measures like deferring loans, reducing taxes or direct subsidies may be correct, but it is better to bring guests to the houses than to inject money into empty hotels to heat them in winter.” However, compliance with the applicable corona protection measures, as emphasized by Zangerl, must be ensured.
The winter aid voucher could also apply to ski areas and mean that low-income families with children could also afford a day of skiing or a short vacation in the countryside. “We have to try to use the houses or the ski areas, and we were also able to show that the locals are not second-class guests, but are just as important to get the tourism engine running again,” said the AK president.
