Michael Wendler has not only voluntarily thrown in the towel as a member of the jury for “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. It also attacks RTL, where it has appeared in various formats in recent years. The station is now announcing the consequences.
Michael Wendler’s bizarre theses on the “presumed corona pandemic” and, in his view, “synchronized” and “politically controlled” television stations continue to cause a sensation. According to his manager, not only were several contracts terminated, but RTL is also considering taking legal action against the singer.
“We will examine and exhaust all legal means available to us,” says a statement from the station chief, Jörg Graf. Therefore, Wendler will no longer have a platform. “The live wedding will definitely not take place on RTL,” clarifies Graf.
The original plan was to broadcast Wendler and Laura Müller’s church wedding live on television and on TVNOW in 2021. However, given that the 48-year-old “canceled our contract independently and without consultation and denigrated RTL” , this plan will no longer be fulfilled, clarified Graf.
Facts instead of conspiracy fantasies
Wendler announced Thursday night that he would be leaving his position on the “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (DSDS) jury with immediate effect. How does the casting show go on? “We are currently in full production for the current season and we are also discussing the jury. The truth is that we have three grand juries ”, says the station chief. They want such a successful show to “certainly not be spoiled by a conspiracy theorist”, much less dictate “how and what we broadcast.”
“The current case again shows that the entertainment industry appears to be particularly vulnerable,” the statement said. For this reason, RTL wants to “dedicate itself journalistically to the phenomenon of conspiracy theories” in the coming weeks. They have “a special responsibility” and want to “contribute to the clarification with facts.”
Michael Wendler was recently not only represented in reality documentaries and as a DSDS juror on RTL. In recent years he has also worked on programs such as “I’m a star – get me out of here!”, “Let’s Dance” or “Summer House of the Stars”.
