Anschober: “Have measurements in the drawer”

From Anschober there was general praise for the work of the traffic light commission. This is doing an “outstanding job”, said the Health Minister. Meanwhile, many other European countries are also discussing the possibility of introducing this qualitative analysis method.

“Measurements in the drawer”

At the moment, the focus of the fight against the pandemic is also on regional measures, but there are “several measures in the drawer.” Anchober declined to comment on what they are, but it could well be that in two or three weeks it will be affiliated nationally.

Anschober also declined to comment on rumors of possible school closings.

Most infections during leisure time

Most infections are still traced to the three areas of home, leisure and work, Herzog reported. Telling the “background stories” of the respective groups is a task that must be fulfilled more and more; it would clearly show where infections are currently occurring.

There was a group in Burgenland that started in the canteen after a football game. In Tyrol, a christening ceremony sparked a group that spread to Salzburg. And today, the “most famous group” is that of a herd of cattle in the Hermagor district of Carinthia, which caused a total of 49 infected people. the index case here was a young, asymptomatic adult who was present at an inn on the day of the cattle arrival and who had attended a birthday party the next day.

Safe at school

The head of the traffic light commission reported that infections among those under 25 were also tested at the start of school. The result: there is no evidence that many in the school are infected. Of course, there is an increase in educational groups, but the virus would be brought in from outside, in many cases by teachers of the younger generation.

Regarding symptoms, however, there is a “clear difference” between the elderly and those under 15 years of age: the latter are usually asymptomatic, while those over 15 years of age show “significantly higher symptoms”.

And while the youngest are mainly infected at home, this proportion is shifting towards leisure time among the elderly. For Herzog, these are important findings and “fundamental to the decisions we make.”
