Due to the recent high number of new Covid infections in Austria, Rudolf Anschober did not rule out measures to be taken in the coming weeks. “We have several measures in the drawer,” said the Minister of Health.

There were more than 1,100 new SARS-CoV-2 infections and more than 10,000 active cases in Austria on Friday. An average of 973 new infections were added every day during the past week.

At the moment, the focus is on “regional measures”, highlighted Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) at a press conference. However, it has “several measures in the drawer”. He declined to comment on possible school closings or extension of the fall break.

Nibbling is possible nationwide on crown measures

Anchober did not say what measures the government had in place. “I can’t and I don’t want to open this drawer,” he said rather. However, there are scenarios for dynamic developments. So it could also be that in two or three weeks the sharpening will be carried out at the national level, said the Minister of Health. Nothing has been decided “in the current situation”.

More recently, there was speculation on Friday about possible school closings or an extension of the fall break. “As a matter of principle, I am not going to get involved in this game, I do not comment on the rumors that are being transmitted,” Anschober said.

In response to a request from the APA, the Education Ministry said the crisis team had not yet raised the issue of extending the fall vacation to the department. Education Minister Heinz Faßmann (ÖVP) had repeatedly spoken out against the general closure of schools in recent weeks. The opposition parties rejected the long autumn break in broadcasting.
