Against the background of the threat to toughen up German travel warnings, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) will meet with Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) on Friday. They meet at the German customs office in Bad Reichenhall, near the Walserberg (Flachgau) border crossing.

Söder had already announced the meeting the week before and referred mainly to the situation of the many travelers between Bavaria and Austria. Kurz once again worries about winter tourism after Germany passed travel advisories for Tirol and Vorarlberg.

Concern over German travel advisory

The tourism industry is particularly concerned about German considerations of a mandatory five-day quarantine for vacationers. At the same time, Salzburg and Upper Austria are also threatened with a travel advisory, as new infections there already exceed the relevant German threshold according to current data.
