Germany

The number of new infections with the coronavirus in Germany has soared to more than 4,500 in one day. Health authorities reported 4,058 new corona infections in the previous 24 hours, as the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced Thursday. That’s more than 1,200 more than Wednesday, when 2,828 new infections were reported, a new record since April. A value higher than that now reported was last reached in the first week of April. Germany even has “10,000 new cases per day”.

According to the RKI, at least 310,144 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus since the beginning of the Corona crisis (data as of October 8 at 12:00 am). According to the RKI, the number of deaths related to a corona infection is 9578. That is 16 more than the day before. According to RKI estimates, around 269,600 people survived the infection. The positive test rate increased dramatically to 1.64 percent in the 40th calendar week (9/28 – 10/2). The week before it was 1.22 percent and before that 1.16 percent.

Croatia

Croatia also reports a high level of new infections: in the last 24 hours, according to health authorities, 542 people were infected with the corona virus. The record so far was 369 on September 3. With the new figures, a total of 18,989 people in Croatia have been infected, and the figures currently show 2,206 active cases. 310 deaths are to be regretted.

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic recorded a record of new corona infections for the second day in a row. 5,335 more cases were added on Wednesday, according to data from the Health Ministry on Thursday. Only the day before the 4000 mark was it passed for the first time. Since the start of the pandemic, 829 people have died in connection with Covid 19 in the Czech Republic. The national emergency has been in effect since the beginning of the week.

The government of Prime Minister Andrej Babis of the populist ANO party wants to present a whole package of measures this Friday. Health Minister Roman Prymula told the newspaper “MF Dnes” (Thursday) that, among other things, the total closure of theaters and cinemas is being negotiated. Hotels could also be used to quarantine people and isolate them from their relatives.

Slovakia

In Slovakia, the number of new infections exceeds the 1,000 mark for the first time in 24 hours. According to Prime Minister Igor Matovic, the current figure is 1,037. “Let’s be very careful please,” Matovic writes on his Facebook page. Since October 1, the country has been in a state of emergency, allowing the government to impose restrictions on public life.

Poland

Poland reports new daily records of 4,280 new infections and 76 deaths. Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska also announced that the capital Warsaw will be added to a list of areas with additional restrictions due to the high number of coronavirus cases. So far a total of 111,599 corona virus cases and 2,867 corona virus deaths have been reported in Poland.

Ukraine

The Ukrainian authorities report that 5,397 detected new infections in 24 hours, more than ever. The total number of cases of infection amounts to almost 245,000. According to the Health Ministry, 93 more people died in connection with the coronavirus, the death toll now stands at 4,690. More than 20,000 people would be treated at the hospital, says Health Minister Maksym Stepanov, warning of a collapse of the health system.

In India, the number of detected infections increased by 78,524 to 6.84 million. In addition, another 971 people died in 24 hours in connection with the corona virus, announced the Ministry of Health. Overall, the number of deaths rises to 105,526. India has the highest number of infections in the world after the United States. Brazil follows in third place, behind the United States and ahead of India in terms of deaths.
