Swarovski wants to cut 1,000 jobs at Wattens alone; now, the glass company is causing a stir with dubious firing methods.

Wattens. The Tyrol Chamber of Labor once again criticizes the Swarovski crystal company based in Wattens, Tyrol, for its dismissal methods. “I have rarely seen anything so flat,” Chamber of Labor Speaker Erwin Zangerl said in a broadcast on Wednesday. Employees were informed of their dismissal through large screens. “The names of those who can stay are in a green box, those who have to leave are in a red box,” he reported.

But that’s not all: On “Servus TV,” a machinery supervisor said that he and hundreds of his colleagues were fired from their vacation by their boss on Wednesday via video conference. The closing conferences were held in different groups.

“Outwardly you present yourself socially, inwardly you show your true face,” Zangerl said. He also criticized the fact that the group “exerts massive pressure” on employees. Swarovski offered to cut working hours “to save the company.” However, the Chamber of Labor warned against accepting this, and those affected should contact the chamber. “This does not imply any legal protection of the workplace,” reported the black head of AK.

The company again noted that only preliminary briefings were held with employees on Monday. Top management conceded to the APA: “If a manager has failed in a department, the management regrets it.” It was emphasized that employees “were not informed about the upcoming changes via the screen” prior to the discussions. The company has assured us that we will treat our employees “with honesty, care and respect.”
