Most of Vienna’s municipal housing estates are in poor condition. According to the audit office, the city is not being renovated enough. Experts see an investment requirement of five billion euros. Private buildings are not being renovated enough either.
Vienna The city of Vienna is the largest property management company in the world. It rents around 12.9 million square meters of living space in municipal housing, where one in four Viennese lives. The city prides itself on it and is also famous internationally. However, according to one of the audit reports available to the “Press”, these buildings are largely in poor condition. Necessary renovations will be postponed, the substance will deteriorate. Experts estimate an investment requirement of at least five billion euros.
Keeping 1,800 residential complexes in good repair is no easy task. Currently, only 26 percent of apartments fall into the good category. For 65 percent, the condition is good or tends to be bad, and the Court of Auditors considers that another nine percent are in poor condition.
