Lotte de Beer succeeds Robert Meyer in the 2022/23 season at the helm of the Vienna Volksoper. This election was announced Tuesday morning by Secretary of State for Art and Culture Andrea Mayer (Greens) and Christian Kircher as general directors of the Bundestheater-Holding. The Dutch (born 1981) will take up her first major managerial position at the top of the Haus am Gürtel in just under two years, on a five-year contract.

In addition to De Beer, more than 30 other interested parties requested the management of the Volksoper, including the incumbent house owner Meyer, who has been running the Volksoper since 2007 and who had again requested an extension of his contract.

“I am convinced that in seven years, at the end of her first term, the Viennese Lotte de Beer will have taken it into their hearts,” said Secretary of State Mayer happily at the presentation of the designated head of opera.
