Corona cases are also on the rise in politics: An employee of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz’s (ÖVP) closest circle tested positive for SARS-CoV2, the Foreign Ministry’s APA learned. The Chancellor is still being tested today, as is Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) and all the other employees in the low confidant’s environment. Until the result was available, Kurz and Kogler canceled all appointments. Neither politician participated in a press conference in Salzburg on the renovation of the festival halls.

Immediately after the positive test result was known, the information chain began, the Foreign Ministry said. As a precautionary measure, all colleagues around the employee would be screened on Monday. Kurz and Kogler were last in contact with the employee on Wednesday and will also be evaluated on Monday. The person in question had a negative test result Tuesday night.

NEOS MP Infected Doppelbauer

It was also announced on Monday that NEOS budget spokeswoman Karin Doppelbauer had tested positive for SARS-CoV2. Doppelbauer was on the EU subcommittee on Thursday. The other participants will now be tested. Two NEOS Club employees, who had a closer contact with Doppelbauer, also go into quarantine. It is likely that Doppelbauer in the immediate family circle has been infected.

Now there is the fourth crown case in the ÖVP parliamentary club. On Monday it emerged that environmental spokesman Johannes Schmuckenschlager fell ill with the virus. The Turkish MPs Johann Singer, Maria Großbauer and Martin Engelberg had already tested positive in recent months.
