From Sunday to Monday, 750 new corona infections were recorded in Austria. Three federal states report more than 100 positive tests, Vienna again in the lead with 315 new infections.
Although traditionally there is little evidence over the weekend, 750 new corona infections were recorded in Austria from Sunday to Monday. In Vienna there were 315 positive tests, in Tyrol and Upper Austria 106 cases each. Lower Austria remained just below the 100 mark with 97 cases.
Corona: Almost 500 people in the hospital
So far, 48,896 positive results have been obtained in Austria. As of today (October 5, 2020, 9:30 am), 818 people in Austria have died from the consequences of the coronavirus and 39,058 have recovered. There are currently 488 people in hospital treatment for the coronavirus, 101 of them in intensive care units.
New infections since the last report are distributed among the Austrian federal states as follows:
- Burgenland: 9
- Carinthia: 12
- Lower Austria: 97
- Upper Austria: 106
- Salzburg: 23
- Steiermark: 32
- Tyrol: 106
- Vorarlberg: 50
- Vienna: 315
More than 9,000 actively infected
11,895 test results were reported in the last 24 hours. As always, there were far fewer on the weekend than on the week. According to figures from the Ministry of Health, only 66 tests were added in Styria. There were 174 in Burgenland, 191 in Carinthia, and 418 in Salzburg. Tirol recorded 858 tests, 1,022 Vorarlberg and 2,782 Lower Austria. 2,980 Covid tests were reported from Vienna in the last 24 hours, most of them with 3,404 SARS-CoV-2 tests in Upper Austria.
Exactly one week ago, on September 28, there were 8,950 actively infected people in Austria; Compared to the current value of 9,020, this is an increase of five percent. There was a significant increase in intensive care patients in one week: they went from 88 last Monday to 101 today, which is an increase of almost 15 percent. This is still a far cry from the previous peak of 267 intensive care patients on April 8, but Austria was on lockdown at the time and hospitals, unlike today, were not fully operational. In routine operation, the utilization of intensive care capacities in hospitals is usually more than 80 percent, in many hospitals it is 90 percent or more.
