Nassereith – It’s after midnight. A 52-year-old man drives his car from Germany down the Fernpass, bound for Italy. Suddenly, a black off-road vehicle emerges from the darkness and forces you to stop. Two men come out, open the driver’s door and hit the Greek citizen’s head with a hammer. They take the Greek out of the car onto the street and run away with both vehicles. This crime is said to have occurred on Sunday night on the Fernpass road. Investigations by the Tyrolean police have been in full swing ever since.

At about 0.40 am yesterday a driver discovered a man bleeding profusely on the side of the road in the municipality of Nassereither. The wounded man tells the story of the robbery to a police patrol that arrives shortly after. He did not know the alleged perpetrators and left in his car, a black Citroën Berlingo with German registration, in the direction of Nassereith. A great persecution started immediately was unsuccessful. Yesterday at noon the Greek’s car was discovered, parked on a hiking trail near Fernsteinsee and thus not far from the alleged crime scene on the Fernpass road. “The tracks are secured, even inside the vehicle,” said police spokesman Stefan Eder. “The work must be done accurately” because, if possible, references to perpetrators should not be overlooked. A “relatively complex” procedure, Eder said.

On Sunday, nothing was known about the motive and other antecedents of the crime. Meanwhile, the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has taken over the case. The alleged victim could only be questioned by investigating officials about the events that occurred during the night of Sunday afternoon. Before that, the 52-year-old man’s head injuries had to be treated at Zams hospital. (bfk)
