For the 2025 Alpine Skiing World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Pinzgau), the federal, state and local authorities will contribute around 50 million euros. According to Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP), the World Cup decision in favor of Saalbach and the associated investments are a mutual injection.
With a clear majority, Saalbach-Hinterglemm beat the rest of the candidates in Switzerland and Germany in the award of the 2025 World Cup and will host the second time since 1991. The federal and state governments -40% each and the municipality- will contribute around 50 million euros to organize a successful ski festival in four and a half years.
Traffic concept for the 2025 World Cup
While there is little to do on the World Cup routes, traffic planning and infrastructure connections are becoming a challenge. At the World Cup, you have to lead the crowd to the head of the Glemmtal valley. According to the general secretary of the application for the World Cup, Peter Hartl, a shuttle bus system is planned from Maishofen for this purpose, there is a train stop here.
A concept for the mobility of the spectators in the place will also be necessary. After all, thousands of tourists visit the Pinzgau winter sports resort in February. “Traffic is now in the foreground in planning, we will also monitor the traffic situation on arrival and departure. We also need it for the place, ”says the president of the State Ski Association, Bart Gensbichler.
Municipality: tourism must be developed in a sustainable way
For the mayor of Saalbach Alois Hasenauer (ÖVP), the sustainable development of the tourist community is in the foreground. With investments that must be integrated into everyday life after and before the World Cup. Saalbach’s tourism director Wolfgang Breitfuß sees the second World Cup as a new boost for the Glemmtal.
“After the 1991 World Championships we met on an international level, of course now we could rest on our laurels and say that it will work out somehow, but that is not how we are in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The renewed ski world championships are therefore a wonderful mosaic for us, ”says tourism director Breitfuß.
All competitions at the Zwölferkogel
The new Zwölferkogelbahn was a core project and already completed for the finally successful Saalbach app, says World Cup App General Secretary Peter Hartl. All competitions will be held at the Zwölferkogel and further investments are planned for this. “Storage expansion is very important to us. In addition, the Zwölferkogel-Nordbahn will be modernized to have two independent feeders for spectators and athletes on the mountain. “
