With a delay of five months, the FIS Board decided on October 3 for Austria and Saalbach Hinterglemm as the venue for the FIS 2025 Alpine Ski World Championships.
SAALBACH HINTERGLEMM. Under normal circumstances, the decision would have been made at the FIS Congress in Thailand in May. However, the current situation did not allow it to take place, so the FIS finally agreed to an online congress to award the FIS Alpine Ski World Championship 2025, among other things. The ÖSV entered the second round with Saalbach Hinterglemm and brought the long-awaited award to Austria with the concept “One mountain: all competitions”.
Saalbach Hinterglemm has shown great will in recent years: as a partner in Austria House at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, as a spontaneous replacement venue for the failed World Cup races in Sölden and Val d’Isere 2018 with just six weeks of prep time and finally as a replacement venue for canceled World Cup races in China 2020 with less than two weeks notice.
For Saalbach, it was a long and intensive journey from application to acceptance. “We put a lot of energy and passion into the bid,” he said. Bartl Gensbichler, President of the Salzburg State Ski Association and President of the Saalbach Hinterglemm Ski Club. “The joy is even greater now that we have been awarded the contract. We efficiently use the time between the originally planned award date and today and refine our concept. However, of course, we are missing valuable preparation time. However, our machinery runs like clockwork and we have proven many times that we work well under pressure. So I am not worried that we will turn the 2025 World Cup into a big ski festival. “
Peter mittererHinterglemmer Bergbahnen CEO continues: “We have a perfect team. Each member has the skills and knowledge they need for their position. Everything works hand in hand and everyone knows what to do. Of course, we can expect a lot of work until 2025. With the new KOGEL lift for 12 people, an ideal infrastructure has already been created on the mountain and the new Rosswald reservoir has laid a good foundation for future training tracks. In the next step, we are starting construction of the new Zwölferkogel Nordbahn to put the finishing touches on our local mountain at Hinterglemm. “
“With Switzerland (Crans Montana / Valais), Germany (Garmisch-Partenkirchen) and Austria (Saalbach Hinterglemm), three equal partners have applied to host the FIS Alpine Ski World Championship 2025. We are very honored that Austria won. the contract with Saalbach Hinterglemm. We want to thank all our fans for the trust they have placed in us and assure them that we will do everything possible again to make these world championships, together with OK Saalbach, a true alpine ski festival. We are convinced that Switzerland and Germany are two great organizers and we wish them the best for the next attempt, ”says the ÖSV president. Peter Schröcksnadel.
Concept: one mountain, all competitions
The Zwölferkogel in Hinterglemm is the place for all disciplines, offering optimal conditions for athletes and all production. The central location, with a single target area, facilitates coordination between the sport and the visitors. The existing infrastructure is used in the best possible way. As for sports facilities, these have already been tested in various races after being adapted based on the latest sports knowledge. With the renovation of the Zwölferkogelbahn, which started immediately after the end of the season in March 2019, the arrival area will receive a new character and will offer considerable advantages and facilitate sports work in the future.
