Time takes to calm down. A foehn storm also hits the country on Sunday.
The storm hit Austria and, as expected, reached the strength of a hurricane in the mountains with a speed of up to 220 kilometers per hour. The consequences were traffic obstructions, road blocks, and many fire departments. Then the storm was followed by flooding.
Today Sunday, the wind is weaker, but we still have to expect strong gusts. Today, a weather advisory continues to apply in some parts of the country.
It’s still foehn, but foehn is much weaker than Saturday. In congested southern areas along the Italian border, thick clouds often remain and it also rains from time to time. Otherwise, the sun shines quite often and there are hardly any clouds, especially in the north and east. The wind blows moderate to strong, strong in the southern mountains. Early temperatures 6 to 16 degrees, daily highs 16 to 23 degrees.
Outlook: so on
As early as Monday night, heavy rains occurred in the run-up to the next front in the southwest. With the fault crossing we generally expect some denser cloud fields and rain on Monday, the sun often only shining in the middle. It’s sunniest in the southeast, and this is where the rainfall incline is lowest in the country. During the day, the wind turns from southwest to northwest and blows partly strongly, especially in the Danube region, on the eastern edge of the Alps and in Burgenland, otherwise much weaker in the lowlands. Early temperatures of 6 to 14 degrees, daily maximum temperatures of 14 to 22 degrees, with the highest values in the east.
Until mid-morning there are regional residual clouds in the northeast and east of Tuesday, then fairly sunny weather prevails there. In the western half, the sun appears sometimes, but the clouds soon get thicker here. Most of the clouds are noticeable in the extreme west and southwest, in these regions some local rain can be expected from the afternoon onwards. The southeast offers the most pleasant climate, where the sun tends to predominate. The wind comes from weak to moderate, sometimes strong, along the north side of the Alps, from southeast to west. In the morning the temperatures range between 2 and 10 degrees, in the afternoon between 13 and 22 degrees.
