oe24.TV: Why does Vienna have so many Corona cases?
Michael Ludwig: The situation is challenging everywhere, especially in the cities. In Vienna, however, we always do the right thing at the right time. We have also developed new methods, such as the gargle test. This allows us to test even faster.
oe24.TV: Mr. Blümel, you are not satisfied with that.
Gernot Blümel: Unfortunately, a travel advisory was issued for Vienna in Germany. Every effort should be made to get off the red list again. Other countries are imposing an earlier curfew, and so are we.
oe24.TV: Is that an attack on Vienna, Miss Hebein?
Birgit Hebein: Partly yes. But that does not take place at all now, we are experiencing the biggest crisis since 1945. It will be a long time before the economy works again.
oe24.TV: Mr. Nepp, you are talking about the dictatorship of the Crown.
Dominik Nepp: Civil and civil rights are being undermined, Minister Anschober may even arrest innocent people. And nobody helps companies or the unemployed. He just wants to pass the Vienna elections, that’s indecent politics.
oe24.TV: Mr. Strache, if you listen to Mr. Nepp, it sounds like you.
HC Strache: I’m glad Dominik learned so well from me. We had an epidemic law with liability for non-compliance. All parties have abolished it. That wouldn’t have happened to me.
oe24.TV: Mr. Wiederkehr, how do you see the management of the crown in Vienna?
Christoph Wiederkehr: There are serious grievances there. We need reliability and speed. Meanwhile, every second crown case can no longer be tracked because staff has not been increased.
oe24.TV: To gastronomy. Blümel wants a 10 pm curfew. Also in Vienna?
Ludwig: There are more sensible measures. I am in line with other countries when it comes to establishing identities. A curfew would be the death sentence for many restaurateurs.
oe24.TV: Mr. Blümel, would a registration requirement be something for all of Austria?
Flowers: Everything is fine for us. I am disappointed that the mayor said the red list in Germany, that does not matter. That is a fatal sign.
Nepp: Mr Blümel, you yourself started issuing travel advisories with Croatia. Of course it has an impact, it just comes back like a boomerang. And then you changed the traffic light to orange.
oe24.TV: There are criticisms of the economic aid of the Crown from the federal government that are too bureaucratic and sometimes do not reach …
Flowers: The numbers clearly show that aid is being received. Mr Nepp himself admitted that he had also requested help for his company.
Nepp: It is impudent, as finance minister, to accuse a businessman of defending his 21 employees. All of this didn’t work out as easily as it does now! And the tax deferrals you brag about: you have to pay them back. But I know: he has never worked in the private sector in his life.
oe24.TV: Mr. Mayor, you have stepped up financial aid in Vienna. What did you miss?
Ludwig: We cannot distribute funds in the same volume as the federal government, but it was important to me that we take sector-oriented action. Many restaurateurs have told me that the gastronomic voucher was the most effective help to overcome this difficult phase.
oe24.TV: Mr. Nepp, if you look at your posters, you might think that Vienna is on the brink of an Islamist takeover.
Nepp: Sometimes there are conditions that cannot be ignored. There are also people who do not want to adapt at all. It must be said: without citizenship there is no more social assistance.
Ludwig: I strongly oppose the fact that people who do not base themselves on our basic democratic values are discredited before entire population groups. If you discover radical groups breaking the law, you have to punish them. His FPÖ Minister of the Interior apparently did not achieve that at the time.
Strache: You have to start with the schools. Here we are at the heart of the problem: there is a culture war in the classroom. In fact, I hope the left wing condemns when women are oppressed.
Hebein: There is too much testosterone in the room here. We have two crises, the climate crisis and the crown, to face, and you think that everything can be solved with more cars and fewer foreigners.
oe24.TV: Speaking of which: is a car-free city a coalition condition for you?
Hebein: I am very sorry that the mayor made such a discouraged decision and hid behind an expert opinion. We will not be able to control the climate crisis in this way.
Strache: Car-free city center is a crazy idea! That would be the final death sentence for commerce. Instead, one could try to reduce traffic by expanding the metro to Lower Austria. But Frau Hebein, as vice lifeguard, so to speak, says she made her paddling pool on her belt because she wants to save the planet.
Flowers: Traffic calm is important, but there will never be a city without cars. The Kipferl does not take the metro to the city.
Hebein: Do not say foolishness! You know very well that there would be exceptions for delivery traffic. Just admit you’re a party biker. So people know who to choose if they want climate protection.
