Former vice chancellor and head of the FPÖ, Heinz-Christian Strache, fights for his political comeback in the Vienna elections with his Strache team. On Thursday he was very confident that he could enter the state parliament and the local council. One expects a final push in mobilization, especially among young voters, from an election campaign song with the programmatic title “HC is back” released today.
The “big catchy tune” lasts just under three minutes, as Strache praised the song. He himself only has a brief vocal appearance: in the accompanying video, the party leader is, of course, the main character. “What hurts those in power? A cross in HC”, rhymes in the song with a lot of rhythm, then appeals in the chorus: “Support the HC team for Vienna”. The interstrophes, which are vocally very similar to Falco, have to do with the home, a “strong police”, affordable housing for Austrians and Corona. “I think something was successful,” Strache praised the work of “anonymous young artists.”
The team, which will end its election campaign on October 7 in Viktor-Adler-Markt, will have to overcome the five percent hurdle on October 11 to win seats in the state parliament and local council. Surveys suggest that moving could be rare. Secretary General Christian Höbart spoke today of the “so-called polls”: “They are trying to artificially push us into the basement.” There will be a surprise on election night.
On social media channels alone, in which only a few thousand euros were invested in campaign money, 400,000 interactions have been recorded to date. “He’s still interested, polarized and electrified,” Höbart said enthusiastically of Strache.
This same joined the optimism. “I’ve been in politics long enough to feel the mood,” and a visit to the Jedlerseer Kirtag showed just how great people’s desire is for Strache’s return, he said.
