More than 8,200 sirens will sound four times in Germany. What the signs mean and when to expect them.
The sirens test alarm lasts significantly longer on Saturday than usual. The signals can be heard throughout Germany from 12 noon to 12:45 pm A total of more than 8,200 sirens are tested, 179 in Vienna alone.
The XXL test alarm is not only used for technical checks. The population must also become familiar with the signs. In total, the sirens will sound four times:
Siren sample – 15 seconds.
Warning: 3 minute continuous tone. Approaching danger. Turn on the radio or television.
Alarm: 1 minute ascending and descending tone. Danger! Go to protected areas, turn on the radio or television.
All clear: 1 minute continuous tone.

Also alarm through the app
During the siren test, the civil protection function of the “City of Vienna” app is also used on smartphones. The service can be subscribed in the app (under “Real-time information”) and provides information on current developments and instructions on how to act in the event of a crisis in Vienna. This also includes civil defense alarms and civil defense test alarms.
Messages are sent to the device using a function called push.
