Ferrari confirms it: three youngsters have their Formula 1 chance. Mick Schumacher sits in the Alfa Romeo in the first practice session at the Nürburgring, Callum Ilott at Haas, Robert Shwartzman has to wait until Abu Dhabi.
Now it’s official: Mick Schumacher drives an Alfa Romeo Formula 1 driver in the first practice session for the Eifel GP at the Nürburgring on October 9. Ferrari will use three juniors in free practice. While Schumacher is sitting in the Alfa Romeo, Englishman Callum Ilott will drive for Haas in the Ring. Robert Shwartzman from Saint Petersburg has the opportunity to participate in the World Cup final in Abu Dhabi.
In preparation for the Formula 1 race, the juniors will take turns at the wheel of a 2018 Ferrari SF71H at Fiorano on September 30.
Schumacher currently leads the Formula 2 standings, Ilott is second in the championship, Shwartzman is currently fifth.
For Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott it is not the first Formula 1 outing. Ilott drove an Alfa Romeo after the 2019 Formula 1 race in Spain, Schumacher was even used for two days, in test drives in Bahrain 2019: one day for Alfa Romeo, one day for Ferrari. Shwartzman has never sat in a GP driver.
At the Nürburgring, Schumacher replaces Antonio Giovinazzi, the Formula 2 championship leader says: “I’m very happy to have had this opportunity. The fact that I can drive in front of my own audience on my first outing as part of a GP weekend makes the outing even more enjoyable. “
