the Slovakia has again the in relation to the appearance of a second corona wave Declaration of state of emergency decided. Will apply from October 1 for 45 daysConservative Prime Minister Igor Matovic announced Wednesday.

The head of government announced via Facebook how the desire of Slovaks to travel during All Saints’ Day will affect the spread of the coronavirus pandemic and then see if they can return to normal, even before the meeting of the corresponding cabinet. “It depends on all of us,” he said.

Last Monday, Matovic blamed citizens who do not adhere to preventive measures for the dramatically rising number of infections. In doing so, he drew severe criticism from all sides.

According to the Slovak news agency TASR, the government accepted the prime minister’s proposal announced two days earlier after a last meeting of the crisis team “with objections.” In the corresponding resolution of the Emergency Law, the members of the cabinet were obliged to “adopt all the measures that allow to lift the emergency as soon as possible.

The emergency applies to all areas of life.

Slovakia had already declared a state of emergency during March’s first corona wave, and it remained in effect for a full 90 days. At that time, however, it only applied to the field of health care, which should allow for the mobilization of health personnel and faster acquisition of medical supplies. Now there will be no such restriction, the measure should apply nationally to all walks of life.

The state of emergency makes it possible to restrict some of the rights and freedoms of citizens, for example freedom of assembly and movement, or to impose an exit ban. Theoretically, encroachments on property rights are also possible, the state could confiscate private buildings and make them available to doctors.

Slovakia has been battling an increasing number of corona infections since late August. Another record was reached on Tuesday with 567 confirmed cases. Three other deaths were also announced Wednesday, bringing the total to 48.

The Czech Republic also participates

The Czech government declared a national emergency as of October 5 this Wednesday due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to the Minister of Health Roman primrose the state of emergency must last 30 days. The goal is to take some measures at the national level to contain infections. No border or business closures or restrictions on freedom of movement are provided, as was the case in the spring emergency, It was said.

“We do not want to take measures like in March, which had a great impact on the economy and the lives of our citizens,” said Prime Minister Andrej Babis. Prymula hopes that the emergency will end in a month and not be prolonged. The House of Representatives should approve a possible extension.

The state of emergency in itself does not mean any restrictions, it only creates a legislative basis for taking certain measures, That could not be decided in accordance with current legislation. This mainly involves ensuring the functioning of hospitals and other health facilities with the help of students from medical schools, because several doctors and nurses are infected by Covid or in quarantine.

Furthermore, according to Prymula, restrictive measures are envisaged in the field of social gatherings and leisure activities. Sporting events must take place without spectators and performances with singing are also suspended. In the worst affected regions, some schools should also be temporarily closed.

Even before the decision, the government had justified the state of emergency in parliament. The opposition criticized the move as a “confession” that the government “failed” to fight infections. “The Babis government can do even more damage if it has greater powers. There is no need for an emergency. It would be enough if the prime minister led the government responsibly and competently,” said the head of the conservative Democratic Party. Citizens Party (ODS) Petr Fiala.
