Guido Burgstaller’s change is fixed!
The ÖFB legionnaire leaves FC Schalke 04 and is signed in the German 2nd Bundesliga with the cult club of Hamburg FC St. Pauli, with whom he will sign a contract that runs until June 30, 2023.
The two clubs agreed not to disclose the transfer.
“I am looking forward to my new position at FC St. Pauli. In my career it has always been important for me to play in clubs with a certain tradition. Now it is important for me to know my teammates and the philosophy of the coach, and then for of course, if possible. ” it will soon be in the square too. I can’t wait to hear Hells Bells on Millerntor, “explains Burgstaller.
Calm at Schalke
The Carinthian moved from Nuremberg to Schalke in January 2017 and immediately settled in Gelsenkirchen. He scored nine goals in the spring of 2017 and was followed by eleven goals in the 2017/18 season.
In the past two seasons, things didn’t go according to plan. In 2019/20 he failed to score a goal in 21 league games for the “Royal Blues”, who plunged deeper into crisis. For the current season, Schalke no longer planned with Burgstaller.
Coach Schultz: “An absolute minded player”
FC St. Pauli have more hopes for the 31-year-old, who announced his resignation from the ÖFB national team after 25 international appearances.
“With Guido Burgstaller we got an absolute minded player who is not good for himself and who forgives neither himself nor the opponent. Things have not gone well for him at Schalke recently, but he has shown quite often that he knows where is the goal. I think our fans can look forward to a player who brings the classic St. Pauli virtues with him, “explains coach Timo Schultz.
“Fits the Millerntor perfectly”
Sporting director Andreas Bornemann is also pleased to have guided Burgstaller to the Millerntor: “With his experience, which many young players will benefit from, and his qualities, Guido Burgstaller corresponds exactly to our profile of requirements. And with his style of game, fits perfectly Millerntor and FC St. Pauli “.
Hamburg finished last season 14th in the table.
