For both teams it was the first appearance of the new ice hockey season in the second round. The “Caps” from Vienna were free to play at the start, those from Bratislava were forced to watch due to the Covid-19 cases in the opponent HC Bozen Südtirol. Black Wings Linz took the lead in the table after a close 2-0 home win against Moser Medical Graz 99ers.
TWK Innsbruck Haie also has the maximum points thanks to a 4: 3 success in EC VSV. There was a first sense of accomplishment for the KAC. The 2019 champion won 3-1 in the Dornbirn Bulldogs. Former leader Red Bull Salzburg was not in action due to the coronavirus issue in Bolzano, it is not yet known for sure when the game will be added.
The capitals of Vienna start a dream
The Viennese were not adversely affected by the cancellation of the last preparatory match against Red Bull Munich, which was scheduled for Friday. From the beginning the game went as expected, in the second minute Colin Campbell opened the hit series with the majority. After Benjamin Nissner’s second goal (14th), the home side was able to cut through Mitchell Hults (17th), but that didn’t change anything. Campbell with two more goals (35th, 38th) and Taylor Vause (30th) shot the decisive lead in the middle third.
After Hults’ 2: 5 (41.) it was the Viennese subsidiary that put the final touches on the game, Marco Richter (48./PP) and Ty Loney (60.) were able to join the shooting list. “It was a good performance from the first meeting to the final siren, my team had a really solid first league game. Seven goals right at the start of the season, naturally, gives the team a lot of self-confidence, ”Vienna Capitals manager Dave Cameron summarized with satisfaction. In the preseason they lost 3-2 at home to Bratislava.
Innsbruck has to shake in the end
Innsbruck continues to swim in the wave of success. Daniel Ciampini (5th, 19th), Deven Sideroff (18th) and Dario Winkler (29./PP) arranged the win away from Villach. That almost didn’t happen, but the Carinthians were denied equalization in a strong finish. After 1: 6 in Salzburg there were no points again.
When KAC played in Dornbirn, the decision was only made in the final stretch with goals from Nick Petersen (53rd) and double scorer Rok Ticar (60th / EN). For the Klagenfurters it was the ninth successive success against the Vorarlbergers. Linz was also late for their second victory, Dragan Umicevic (48th) and Juha-Pekka Hytonen (60th) scoring the only goals in Upper Austria. Graz could not improve after the initial victory.
