The community of 1,000 is likely to have another change of mayor: in today’s municipal council election, the ÖVP was able to achieve an absolute majority with its “Mit einer Hochwolkersdorf” list; specifically, leading candidate Martin Puchegger and his team won 55.4 percent of the vote or eleven terms on the city council. The SPÖ, led by local chief Sylvia Blank, won 44.6 percent of the vote and eight seats on the local council. Erwin Karner’s latest list, “Future Hochwolkersdorf”, was not chosen this time.
In the January municipal council election, the SPÖ still received 47.81 percent of the vote, nine out of a total of 19 seats. The Popular Party obtained 30.83 percent and six seats. The “Zukunft Hochwolkersdorf” list of citizens, which this time was not on the ballot, immediately reached the municipal council and reached 21.36 percent (four seats).
