20 percent loss since the start of the corona pandemic

The Hallein, Tennengau-based manufacturer of lathes and mills Emco GmbH, will register up to 100 employees for dismissal with the Public Employment Service (AMS) next week. The reason is a 20 percent drop in sales caused by the Corona crisis.

About a quarter of the total of around 400 employees at headquarters should have to leave the company, Salzburger Nachrichten (SN) reported on Saturday. The decision was made at the board meeting on Friday.

Loss of job at Emco in Hallein

Until now, Emco has been able to maneuver the company relatively safely through the economic crisis with the part-time system. Due to the change in billing modalities for the second phase of short-term work and the conditions of the unclear financial framework of the third model of short-term work confirmed by the government, planning is limited, according to the company.

In the worst case, 100 layoffs were expected. Management’s first talks with the union were ongoing. “I am open to creative solutions,” the ÖGB state president and president of the Chamber of Labor, Peter Eder, are quoted in the report.
