Caution: Large amounts of fresh snow can cause chaos at some crossings.
A cold front and a low in the south determine the weather on Friday. Then it rains from thick clouds widely and sometimes heavily. Especially in Carinthia, in the Graz basin, as well as on the eastern edge of the Alps and in the Vienna basin, storms are mixed with precipitation. At night, the snowfall line will also descend from the west to places around 1,500 meters above sea level. The sun hardly appears, more often only in the south and southeast. The wind comes mainly from the west, but in the eastern half initially from the southeast to the south and generally blows moderate to strong. Early temperatures are nine to 18 degrees, highs only 19 to 22 degrees.
The forecast in detail
Vienna: Apart from some holes in the clouds, the sky remains cloudy and it rains a lot, but especially during the morning hours and at night. The wind initially comes from the southeast, but turns increasingly westward during the day and generally blows moderately to brisk. Around 17 degrees in the morning, up to 19 degrees during the day.
Lower Austria: On Friday it rains frequently and intensely with thick clouds. In general, short solar windows are rare. Especially in the Vienna Basin, thunderstorms can mix with afternoon rainfall. The line of snow generally sinks from the west to places below 2000 m above sea level at sunset. The initially moderate wind from the southeast turns more and more to the west during the day and is strong at night. The first temperatures from 12 to 18 degrees. The maximum daily temperatures are reached between 14 and 20 degrees.
Burgenland: In addition to the brief phases of sunshine, dense clouds dominate all parts of the country on Friday, also bringing rain again and again. In the afternoon the precipitation intensifies with thunderstorms. Until late afternoon, moderate to strong south winds sometimes blow. As a result, the wind turns from west to northwest and remains moderate to strong. After 15 to 18 degrees in the morning, almost no daytime warming to 19 to 22 degrees.
Upperösterreich: Friday brings cloudy and humid weather. Sometimes it rains a lot. Strong westerly winds cool briefly between 50 and 70 km / h at noon and in the early afternoon. In the morning from 12 to 15 degrees, the maximum values at noon reach 14 to 17 degrees. In the afternoon it refreshes.
Steiermark: Friday the cold front is over Styria. Take into account torrential rains, accumulated thunderstorms, and significant cooling during the day fairly early. In the early hours of the morning it remains dry in the southeast. As a result, a Mediterranean minimum is contracted. Early values of 9 to 15 degrees, maximum values of northwest to southeast of 14 to 22 degrees.
Carinthia: On Friday clouds dominate the whole day in Upper Carinthia and heavy and prolonged rains are expected, including thunderstorms. In Lower Carinthia, strong thunderstorms only pass from time to time, here a locally strong strong south wind repeatedly ensures breaks in rainfall, briefly the clouds can even relax with a little sun in between. The temperatures are very different, in the west they are only around 14 degrees, in the Lower Lavant valley and in the Jauntal, up to 20 degrees are possible with a foehn.
Salzburg: Friday brings cloudy and humid weather. Sometimes it rains a lot. In the afternoon, a strong west wind cools and cools significantly. It can get stormy for a moment in Flachgau. The snow limit is 2500 m during the day and 1300 m at night in the Northern Alps. In the morning and at noon from 10 to 14 degrees, in the afternoon it cools.
Tirol: With partially strong westerlies, a cold front stops over Tyrol. The clouds are thick and it is raining, most intensely along the main alpine ridge. It cools down significantly, the snow line falls at night from the north around 1100 m to 1500 m, in eastern Tyrol it could remain a little higher. Temperatures do not rise during the day and are between 9 and 14 degrees all day, in Lienz around 16 degrees.
Vorarlberg: With partially strong westerly winds, a cold front moves across the country. The clouds are thick and it is raining heavily in some places. It cools significantly, the snow line sinks rapidly from the north to 1100 to 1300 m. The temperatures do not rise during the day and are between 9 and 13 degrees all day.
Outlook – so on
Under the influence of a low pressure vortex, Saturday begins with thick clouds and rain. Most of the rain falls north of the main alpine range, as well as in the north and east. The snow line is between 1,000 and 1,600 meters. In the afternoon precipitation decreases from Upper Austria to the east and the cloud cover begins to loosen. However, further west it remains cloudy and humid. The climate is much friendlier to the southern foehn in the south and southeast. Here it only rains locally in the morning. The wind comes from west to northwest and blows in the Foehn valleys south of the main Alpine range and in the east, sometimes fast to strong. It is four to ten degrees in the morning and six to 15 degrees during the day.
On Sunday, the low circles directly over Austria. Climatically active zones are expected to be largely outside the country and only graze. As a result, from today’s perspective, it is mostly friendly to a longer sun and only in the mountainous region are there stronger clouds. The wind blows from the west, especially in the Danube region and the eastern plains, but it weakens during the day. It’s cold with morning temperatures between zero and ten degrees and daily highs of only ten to 17 degrees.
On Monday there is still a big and surprising low pressure system in Central Europe. A corresponding area of precipitation nests against the Alps from the north and brings occasional rains, which can sometimes be productive. The snowfall line moves between 1,500 and 2,000 meters. Rainfall remains rare in the east and south and the sun occasionally appears here. However, there are large uncertainties for the forecast. The wind can be stronger regionally. It comes mainly from south to west. After two to ten degrees at the beginning of the day, nine to 16 degrees are expected in the later course.
The previously determining weather low will move east on Tuesday. This calms the climate in Austria. Cloud-like disturbances still persist in some areas, but rain is to be expected on the northern side of the Alps. The wind comes from west to northwest and blows moderate to strong, on the southern side of the Alps, the northern foehn can be more easily noticed. Morning temperatures range between three and eleven o’clock, the daily highs between 13 and 19 degrees.
