VIENNA. Starting in November, the wages and salaries of 190,000 metal industry employees will increase 1.45 percent. The social partners agreed on this yesterday, Thursday, after the first round of negotiations. The agreement came as a surprise because the employer and the union had always negotiated several rounds in recent years.
This year, the crown crisis was the deciding factor for a speedy conclusion, both parties emphasized. The collective agreement among metalworkers is considered to set trends for other industries. Page 11
