Long sought after, now the federal capital Vienna is enforcing it on its own – it decides the mandatory registration in the catering trade. Mayor Ludwig once again rejected the curfew from 10 pm
In the morning, the Vienna City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) called for it out loud, a few hours later it was fixed: Vienna is introducing mandatory guest registration in the restaurant sector. This is to make it easier to follow up with contact persons in case of coronavirus infections. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) announced this on Thursday.
Vienna, the federal capital, will issue an ordinance, which should take effect on Monday. A corresponding form is currently being developed.
Individual sheets, no lists
Hosts must fill out forms in which guests must register. This should be set out in the house rules of the respective catering establishments, as explained by Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ). He emphasized that one deliberately refrained from lists, and instead relied on implementation using individual sheets. This is to ensure that other visitors cannot see who also visited the restaurant that day.
Forms must be collected by restorers and kept for four weeks. In any case, data protection must be guaranteed, he assured. Because the authority can only inspect documents in case of infection.
Employers who refuse to submit the forms face penalties. The regulation, as Ludwig stressed, was also coordinated with the president of the Chamber of Commerce Walter Ruck. The regulation will initially apply until the end of the year.
The city chief also confirmed that he did not want to bring a curfew, like the federal states in the west, at 10 p.m. This would increase the risk of people going to illegal parties after bars close or continue partying. at home with large numbers of people, Ludwig noted.
Hacker: Good experience in the cultural sector
On Thursday morning, Health Councilor Hacker reiterated his call for mandatory guest lists at Vienna City Hall. These could facilitate the follow-up of contacts in cases of coronavirus, he said in the question time of the municipal council.
The issue has been discussed with the federal government for weeks, he complained. In fact, it was announced in August. But not yet implemented. The hacker posted test lists for visitors that companies had to keep. Currently, this is only possible on a voluntary basis, he noted. The possibility of implementing an obligation is currently “unfortunately” absent in the Epidemic Law.
The department head referred to the small group of infections recently discovered in the theater and opera area. There the names of the visitors were recorded. “This guest list allowed us to very clearly delineate the cluster in a few days and slow its expansion.”
Help for clubs and hotels
The pandemic was once again the focus of a meeting of the city parliament. The ÖVP urged, for example, in an urgent request today, to carry out more rapid tests and accept the offer of the Ministry of the Interior regarding contact tracing. Quarantine measures were also controlled to a lesser extent than in Tirol, for example, according to the request.
Numerous resolutions also related to Covid measures. Today’s meeting, for example, will kick off grants for the nightlife and club scene and support for the hospitality industry.
