Eleven teachers stay away from the school for fear of Corona.
Only 767 of the total of around 123,000 teachers were exempted from classroom teaching due to Covid-19, current figures from the Ministry of Education show. According to the certificate of a specialist doctor, 668 educators fall into the risk group, 88 live with a person at risk. Only eleven teachers allowed themselves to be exempted from classroom teaching because the growing number of Covid-19 infections represents a particular psychological burden for them, according to their medical certificate.
At this very low level, a comparatively large number of teachers in Vienna, 1.2%, allowed themselves to be exempted from classroom teaching. Despite the orange traffic light, only three people with a particular psychological stress from Corona have argued. In Styria, seven teachers switched to pure distance education for this reason; in Upper Austria he was a teacher. Meanwhile, Burgenland, Carinthia and Vorarlberg report that there are de facto no exemptions for teachers from face-to-face teaching, regardless of the reason.
Take care of distance learning
Teachers who are exempt from face-to-face teaching should take care of those students who are also exempt from face-to-face teaching, because they belong to a risk group, share a home with someone from a risk group or are particularly mentally stressed due to the increasing number of infections. According to a spokeswoman, staffing issues due to crown-related classroom teaching exemptions have not yet been reported to the ministry in light of the low numbers. The situation is similar for teachers who are in quarantine in relation to Covid-19: here there are also no reports of major bottlenecks by education directorates. However, there were two schools where all teachers were quarantined after a conference with a participant who later tested positive for the corona virus.
So that teacher absences due to corona diseases or quarantine notices can be better absorbed in the future, the Ministry of Education is building a pool of teachers together with teacher training schools responsible for teacher training who should be able to intervene quickly in an emergency. It will start with 30 people, with the option to expand the offer.
