A few days after the start of a second nationwide lockdown, the crown numbers in Israel have risen to a record high. The Health Ministry announced Wednesday that 6,861 cases had been registered the day before. Many have not yet registered in the country; however, the number of tests has recently increased. The previous record was September 15 with 5,533 cases. Four months ago, on May 23, only five new infections were recorded.
A second nationwide lockdown has been in effect in the Mediterranean country since Friday. People have to accept school closures and restrictions on freedom of movement. With the new restrictions, which will initially apply for three weeks, the government mainly wants to prevent the health system from being overloaded. One trigger was the warning from hospital managers about impending capacity limits. The government is discussing a tightening of the blocking measures. On Wednesday, the coronavirus cabinet wanted to discuss it again the day before after consultation hours.
Israel: new infections increase after remitting
The pandemic in Israel initially ran smoothly, also due to strict government policy. However, after the rapid relaxation in May, the numbers soared. The government, on the other hand, repeatedly urged people to adhere to regulations such as the use of face and nose masks and distance rules. The Arab and ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods are the most affected. Larger families tend to live there in a small space.
