Economy Minister Margarete Schramböck (ÖVP) defended on Wednesday the advance of the curfew in the three western federal states as a measure against the corona virus.

“We have to take action now so that winter tourism is not in danger.” The economy is made up of very different companies, and the earlier curfew in the restaurant sector is simply necessary because otherwise broader areas of the economy are at risk, so Schramböck.

Focus on winter tourism

He responded to criticism from the restaurant industry. In the western federal states, the situation is exacerbated because it relies heavily on winter tourism.

If stricter measures are taken now, domestic and foreign tourists can also receive security in winter. “Now we are doing everything possible to make safe winter tourism possible,” agreed Labor Minister Christine Aschbacher (ÖVP).

Measurements for Schramböck “clear”

It also appeals to all who go out to be careful, because it’s up to you to protect your workplace by preventing companies from having to shut down with your behavior, Schramböck said. The minister denied that the various measures were now confusing: communication was “clear”, there were regulations at the Austrian level and, depending on the federal state, different.
