Most Austrians feel as confident buying Corona as before. The fear of becoming infected with Covid19 is considered low. This is the result of a survey conducted by Offerista among 1,248 people since the end of July / beginning of August. Consequently, 57 percent told Offerista that they felt like they did before Corona when shopping. In mid-April it was only 30 percent. Fear of getting infected while shopping dropped from 26 percent in mid-April to 16 percent recently.

68 percent of those surveyed believe it is a good thing that the mask requirement, which has since been suspended, was reintroduced in Austrian supermarkets on July 24. In particular, people over 55 were particularly pleased (78 percent). However, a fifth of those surveyed said they were upset by the reintroduction of the mask in the supermarket.

Frequency increase

The survey also shows that Austrians buy more often again, because the survey was conducted at the end of March, mid-April and at the end of July to August. At the end of March, one in two people said they only went to the stationary supermarket once a week. At the end of July that was only 37 percent. In contrast, the number of people who went back to shopping every day increased from 5 percent (at the end of March) to 17 percent.

Increasing attention is paid to regionality and quality. According to the survey, the older the respondents, the more they value these two criteria. Overall, the importance of quality has increased from 21 to 31 percent compared to mid-April.
