Corona Statistics: 645 New Infections Tuesday in Austria – Coronavirus Vienna

On Tuesday, the number of people actively infected with Covid-19 in Austria fell for the first time. 8,220 people were considered active cases, 155 fewer than on Monday. 645 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours. The number of people in hospital treatment has increased significantly, with an additional 26 patients treated in normal wards. There were eight additional patients in the intensive care unit. 14,552 PCR tests have been recorded since Monday.

This means that fewer than 15,000 tests were logged in the last 24 hours; at the end of the previous week there were still around 18,000 tests daily. In recent weeks it has been the case that the number of tests on Tuesday has always increased, because evaluations from the weekend were added. Meanwhile, the number of new infections in the last seven days rose to 714. In Vienna, Tyrol, Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Vorarlberg there were fewer people actively infected than on Monday.

On Monday, 364 people in Austria had to be treated in the hospital, on Tuesday there were already 390. The number of patients in intensive care units also increased significantly: from 67 on Monday to 75 on Tuesday, which means an increase of almost twelve percent.

771 people have died as a result of the corona virus since the pandemic outbreak, four more deaths compared to Monday. A total of 39,303 people have tested positive so far.

When it comes to new infections, the federal capital again accounted for the most on Tuesday at 205, meaning there were 4,350 active cases here Tuesday. There were 86 new infections each in Upper Austria (737 active cases) and Styria (529 active cases). There was an increase of 85 in Lower Austria (1,074 active cases). In the last 24 hours, 77 new infections were reported in Salzburg, which means there are now 263 active cases. Tirol had a plus of 54 new infections and, therefore, registered 597 actively infected. In Vorarlberg, 27 new infections were reported, in the westernmost federal state, 455 people are actively infected with SARS-CoV-2. Burgenland recorded 14 new infections (118 active cases) and Carinthia eleven, with a total of 97 actively infected, the southernmost state still the only one with fewer than 100 active cases.

The number of tests recorded in the epidemiological registry (EMS) of the individual federal states in the last 24 hours was again very different. In Burgenland there were only 303, in Salzburg 507, in Carinthia 598 and in Vorarlberg 847. All other federal states sometimes carried out more than 1,000 tests. Tyrol recorded 1,283 PCR tests. Upper Austria 1,411 and Styria 2,336. 2,345 tests were added from Lower Austria and most of them were carried out in the federal capital as before. There were 4,922 tests compared to Monday. A total of 1,472,647 PCR tests have been carried out throughout Austria since the start of the pandemic.
