Innsbruck – 108 new infections occurred in Tyrol on Friday, so LH Günter Platter’s (ÖVP) lines of concern are deepening. Finally, there is also a Germany travel warning in the room. They already exist for Vienna. “The fear is there, so now we need strict measures like the requirement for masks or restrictions on private gatherings,” says Platter, because a German travel warning would be a blow to the neck for the all-important winter tourism in the Tirol.
On the other hand, Platter is optimistic, because tourism in particular is “striving to offer its guests a safe vacation.” There are hardly any problems there and only a few infections. In any case, the clarification of suspected cases, contact tracing (identification of the contact person) and the evaluation of corona evidence should be even faster in Tyrol. “I’m not entirely satisfied here,” said Platter openly, who visited the new Corona center at a hotel in Innsbruck on Friday with Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner and military commander Ingo Gstrein. There are 30 soldiers of the armed forces on duty, a total of 50 employees.
Almost 10,000 lab result records have already been processed since the center was launched in early September. “From test announcement and background information to contact person follow-up, case processing and first secretions, we work closely together,” explains Tyrolean task force leader Elmar Rizzoli. To expand and optimize testing capabilities, seven mobile screening stations are planned, the first will go into operation next Thursday.
At the same time, Governor Platter asked the Defense Minister to increase the assistance of the Armed Forces in Tyrol to 65 people. Tanner then announced that the deployment would be evaluated and in the event of additional support requirements, further support would be provided if possible. “The current deployment of assistance from the Austrian Armed Forces to support the contact tracing team is a complete success.”
For both Tanner and Platter, there is no way to avoid tightening the federal government’s measures to effectively curb the renewed spread of the coronavirus. “Because infections these days mainly occur in gatherings and private parties.” (pn)
