The FACC company meetings take place at the Ried fairgrounds from eight in the morning. The chairman of the board, Robert Machtlinger, informs the works council and the union about the massive reduction: 650 of the 3,400 FACC employees in Upper Austria will lose their jobs. This means that the company remains at the low end of the job cuts that were confirmed in May. As a supplier to the international aeronautical industry, FACC has been severely affected by the major market disruptions caused by the Corona crisis. Sales will decrease from 230 to 520 million euros compared to the previous year.
In recent months, a social plan was negotiated for the affected employees. The negotiating partners did not want to reveal any details. By the end of next week, employees who are affected by the layoff should be informed. On October 1, FACC will finish the short-time job and will want to return to a “normal” production environment. CEO Machtlinger expects the market to stabilize in 2021. However, traffic volume should still be around 30 percent below 2019. “It will go slow.”
