On September 16, Sony announced the price and release date of the PS5. Shortly after, I could already reserve the console in many stores. But that wasn’t supposed to happen, as Sony originally promised. Now the internet is making fun of that, including competition from Xbox.
What happened? After the livestream on new games and the price of the new PS5, a very chaotic presale began. Sony announced that pre-orders should begin on September 17, just hours after the live stream.
But it turned out very different. Shortly after 11pm, the first could order a PS5 here in Germany, for example from MediaMarkt. They were also sold out after a few minutes. Although some stores continue to receive orders, the rush was great and chaotic, upsetting many.
Because that’s exactly what Sony wanted to avoid. Beforehand it was said:
It won’t happen on the side. At some point, we’ll let you know when you can pre-order PlayStation 5. So don’t feel like you have to queue until you receive an official notification.

What followed is typical of the Internet. Gamers, and even Microsoft’s competition, scoffed at Sony.
Xbox teases the PS5
How does the competition react? In a tweet, Xbox announced when exactly the pre-orders for the new “Xbox Series X” and “Series S” consoles begin, specifically on September 22. At the same time, they mentioned that the launch is taking place simultaneously in 36 countries.
The tweet is a clear blow to the competition. It wasn’t just the chaotic pre-orders that drew criticism there. Because in Europe the PS5 will not appear until November 19, a week later than in the United States, Canada or Japan. That is not the case with the Xbox.
The players show a mixture of anger and humor.
How do the players react? The subreddit for the PS5 collects all kinds of threads for chaotic pre-orders. Some of them are unhappy and feel that Sony lied. They went to sleep or work after the event and thus missed their first chances, as the finalist user, whose thread is currently # 2 on reddit with over 9,500 upvotes.

People accumulate consoles and sell them at high prices
As is often the case with pre-sales, some people are trying to get rich from the console shortage. This should no longer be possible through official channels, but other sellers do not control it as strictly.
The consoles are already sold at exorbitant prices on eBay. There you can get individual consoles for up to 1,000 euros. However, you should keep your hands off such offers and wait until official retailers offer a PS5 again.
