Plans for Praterstrasse unveiled: Greens want to eliminate car lane

In March 2019, the SPÖ finally agreed on a planning process. Now their results have been presented.

By the way, you can already get an idea of what awaits you at Praterstrasse. Due to the emerging bike lane, one lane outside the city is currently closed. This state should be fixed now.

Criticisms of FPÖ and ÖVP

The FPÖ is not happy with the project. “That is what happens when you let two enemies of green cars plan a street,” club president Toni Mahdalik said via broadcast.

Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) seems to shake up this “crazy project”, even though the existing bike lanes are wide enough.

The ÖVP fears that the lane removal will lead to traffic jams and more traffic around Grätzeln. “Praterstrasse must not become an ideological playing field for the Greens,” said traffic spokesman Manfred Juraczka.

The Neos are excited: they welcome “climate-friendly plans” for Praterstrasse, according to Christian Moritz, top candidate in Leopoldstadt. “I am particularly pleased that the opening of Therese-Krones-Park is finally being pushed forward.”
