In the long run, the examples should be more fun. A new point system is coming in the short term. It is no longer possible to deliver empty sheets.
The inclusion of the annual grade in the Matura grade introduced this year will be maintained for all Matura subjects, as explained by the Minister of Education, Heinz Faßmann. Test scores and annual certificates are weighted 50 percent each. If it falls exactly between two grades, the exam grade stands out. An innovation will be applied from next year: you have to reach at least 30 percent of the maximum points in the Matura exam, to avoid giving blank pages. In addition to the overall grade, both partial grades (exam / annual report) are recorded on the Matura certificate.
At AHS Mathematura, action was required in light of fluctuating test results in recent years, Faßmann explained. At the AHS, the core math end-of-school exam is currently divided into a core part (“Type 1”) and an in-depth part (“Type 2”). In both cases, 24 points can be reached, making a total of 48. For a “Sufficient”, 16 points must be reached in the basic section or a total of 24 points must be accumulated.
In 2021, the basic section will remain unchanged (24 tasks with one point each). However, in the more detailed text and application-oriented part, only twelve points are awarded, a total of 36. In this in-depth part, there is a task with four points that can be achieved independently and three tasks with four points each. Within these last three examples, there is a best-scoring rating – only those two are used for the rating where the most points were scored.
Do the calculations with paper and pencil
Starting in 2026, part of the Matura should only be achieved with paper and pencil, that is, without a calculator. The end-of-study exam should be based on international models. Their role model is the Netherlands, said mathematics professor Michael Eichmair of the advisory group for the new Matura requirements: “There, cultural or socio-political contexts are also embedded in tasks, not just scientific ones. And homework is quite fun. “(APA)
