Angela Merkel is outraged by Austria’s politics

The German chancellor found clear words in an internal meeting on the Moria crisis. She is particularly critical of Sebastian Kurz.

The truly exemplary relationship between Austria and Germany is increasingly being tested. The biggest stumbling block in the past has also been different attitudes towards the migration issue, because Angela Merkel (“We can do it”) takes a much more generous approach than Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP).

As “Bild” reports, Merkel now finds very clear words for Sebastian Kurz’s course. Because she continues to adhere to her principle of not accepting a single child and not a single person from Moria. Thousands of refugees have been waiting in the streets for several days, without food and without shelter. Instead, financial support, a doctor and ten army paramedics were sent to Greece.

Austria’s role “is not good”

Merkel believes that the role that Austria (but also the Netherlands) is playing in Europe “is not good”. You can’t ask for a discount at the EU summit, but then you want to stay out of the refugee distribution. Chancellor Kurz, however, rejects a recording as an “incorrect signal” on principle.

In Austria too, more and more sides are opposing the Chancellor’s hard line. Not only the Greens, SPÖ, NEOS and many other organizations are demanding the admission of refugees from Moria. Even the Conference of Catholic Bishops sees this as a self-evident and Christian act of help. In the federal states, some ÖVP mayors have announced that they want to accept people into their community. Strange: even the recently re-elected FPÖ mayor of Hohenems, Dieter Egger, says his city will accept refugees. Because this is an “act of humanity”.

In short: “Austria absorbs more”

On Sunday evening Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (Vice President) made it clear in “ZiB 2” that Austria welcomes more people than other countries. It is always claimed that Austria does not accept anyone. This year alone we granted asylum to 3,700 children.

Over the weekend, the government presented its aid package for Moria. The foreign disaster fund doubled to approximately € 50 million. You can read the details HERE >>
