Liverpool FC’s Mohamed Salah sent a signal of solidarity to his seriously ill teammate, Moamen Zakaria, with a special celebration during the Reds ‘4-3 victory in the Reds’ first league game against Leeds United.
In the clash with Marcelo Bielsa’s team, Salah tied at three and, after scoring from a penalty to make it 4-3, Zakaria celebrated his goal. So Salah made an “8” with his fingers, the number of Zakaria, then covered his ears and stuck out his tongue.
Salah mimicked the exultant pose with which left winger Zakaria used to celebrate his goals. The Al Ahly Cairo midfielder was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) last month.
The disease is incurable and means for Zakaria, among other things, that his career as a footballer is over. Zakaria has played twelve international matches for Egypt so far, the last of which in March 2018.
