Electric bicycle driver killed in traffic accident – Styria

A fatal car accident occurred in St. Kathrein am Hauenstein on Saturday. A 61-year-old cyclist died.

The accident occurred at around 3 pm on LB 72. A 47-year-old man from the Kirchdorf an der Krems district was riding his motorcycle in the direction of Krieglach from Birkfeld. At kilometer 74.5 of the road he passed a motorcyclist who was driving in front of him.

Collision with a motorcycle

At the same time, a 61-year-old man from the Weiz district wanted to cross LB 72 with his electric bike. The 47-year-old motorcycle rider likely overlooked the 61-year-old due to the overtaking maneuver and caught him. As a result of the collision, the handlebar of the electric bicycle was thrown into a ditch next to the road and suffered fatal injuries.

The 47-year-old motorcycle driver was also seriously injured and the crew of the “Christophorus 12” rescue helicopter had to be airlifted to LKH Graz. There was significant material damage to both vehicles.

In addition to the police and the Austrian Red Cross, 17 people from the St. Kathrein volunteer fire brigade also participated in the operation. The LB 72 was completely blocked during the rescue and the investigation of the facts.
