In the Ö1-Journal, the head of the Greens, Werner Kogler, announced an increase in unemployment benefits by 150 euros a month during the Crown crisis.
Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler has spoken out in the Ö1 series “Im Journal zu Gast” in favor of a further increase in unemployment benefits during the time of the crown crisis. He mentioned an increase of 150 euros per month as a possible amount.
It is said to be a “follow-up” to the one-time payment of 450 euros made in September, a measure that the government had already decided in July. In September, all Austrians who received at least 60 days of unemployment benefit or emergency assistance between May 1 and August 31 received a € 450 crown bonus in the form of a lump sum.
Idea already in July
The idea of continuing this increase, explained on Saturday on ORF radio, was already mentioned by Kogler as a possibility in July. The vice chancellor clearly said at the time that the one-time payment for the unemployed was not a closed issue for him and that a permanent increase in unemployment benefit should be discussed in future negotiations.
In the Ö1-Journal he specifically said: “We want the regulation to continue. A one-time payment was made, but let’s remember: the calculation method was as follows: 150 euros per month and that was valid for three months, and that’s where we thought o let’s negotiate a follow-up arrangement. In principle, the goal is to increase unemployment benefits by 150 euros. “
