Corona traffic light: Mayor of Linz calls for closure

Even if the Corona traffic light for Linz was changed from yellow to green, criticism from Mayor Klaus Luger (SPÖ) did not stop on Friday. Despite the green, stricter rules apply due to the expansion of the mask requirement that has been announced across Austria. LH Thomas Stelzer and MP Christine Haberlander (both ÖVP) saw the extended mask requirement as the “right step”.

“Because the federal government suddenly does not want to differentiate, but to use a shower,” the people of Linz “have to count on a mask requirement, event cancellations and other charges despite the green,” Luger showed no understanding for actions of the federal government. Given the lack of differentiation options, he demanded “the turning off of the Anschober Corona traffic light.” The traffic light is just a “political show”.

Stelzer and Haberlander, on the other hand, welcomed the fact that the government “created more uniformity” that should apply across the country as of Monday. “Uniform and easily understandable instructions for action and regulations that do not constantly change are essential for public acceptance,” they said. Corona’s stoplight will now develop further accordingly.
