The 20th edition of the Amadeus Awards was held. And they managed to become possibly the most boring in history.
This year’s Amadeus Awards already had a bad star. Actually, the show should have taken place at the town hall. Due to the “C word,” as Conchita Wurst said on the show, the event was initially postponed for a month. After that, the fall was avoided. And when it became clear that the anniversary mega show wasn’t going to work, the decision was made to just record it.
Tension suffered as a result, which in recent years has rarely happened anyway. The announcement of the musical acts made it possible to find out who could collect a trophy. For example, “My Ugly Clementine” won an award in the alternative category, “Anger” won the FM4 award, and Voodoo Jürgens won the trophy for best album.

How he did it is questionable, as Seiler and Speer, for example, were in the same category. Her album “Für Immer” easily reached platinum status, has been on the charts for almost a year and she doesn’t even think about leaving them. Jürgen’s album “s’ klane Glücksspiel”, on the other hand, had to say goodbye to the charts after just nine weeks. Of course, the awards ceremony should be much more than just a commercial success. However, the award seems a bit opaque. Especially if one takes into account that Voodoo Jürgens, despite having the best album, could not win the alternative of “minor category”, where it was also nominated.
Andreas Gabalier’s lack of nomination caused much anticipation. The self-proclaimed Volks-Rock’n’-Roller was neither among the nominees for the best hits and folk music nor among the best live acts. Like only a few other local artists, he manages to sell stadiums multiple times. And not only in Austria, but also in Germany. Since Gabalier was gone, Melissa Naschenweng was able to secure her first prize in the Schlager category. The best live act was Bilderbuch, who impressed with his show at Schönbrunn. Additionally, Bilderbuch was the only act of the evening to win a second trophy for best pop / rock of the year.
One can only hope that there is another live show next year, which can be more daring and not just want to go unnoticed by the evening show. After all, it is the only music award in Austria. There should be a little more power behind it.
