Against conspiracy myths: Lambrecht wants a democracy promotion law
In light of the conspiracy myths in the crown pandemic, Federal Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) is pushing for a law to promote democracy. Permanent financing of democratic initiatives is the “most powerful weapon” against extremists in the long run, he said in the Bundestag on Thursday. During the current hour, multi-party MPs vowed to uphold the liberal-democratic basic order and backed the police.
In the “Rheinische Post” in Düsseldorf, Lambrecht explained why a law promoting democracy was necessary. “A big problem is that many social projects to strengthen democracy have only a limited financial base.” Organizations cannot plan for the long term and it is difficult to keep competent employees long term. In the case of conspiracy myths, “much more clarification is needed for the critical handling of information on the Internet.” Even at school, children’s critical skills should be strengthened so that they do not fall for “boring slogans and idiotic myths”. Because the people who seriously claimed that Germany was actually ruled by lizard beings are no longer accessible to factual arguments.
