The waste disposal company Gunskirchner RLS-tech pays a reward of € 30,000 for relevant information leading to the capture of an anonymous ad writer. For two years, the stranger has sent numerous letters to various authorities, from the Police to the state government and the Ministry of the Environment, accusing the company of serious environmental crimes.
But wrongly, as Berthold Lindner, the company’s lawyer, also emphasizes: “The judiciary has carefully verified this. The accusations have proven to be unjustified and false.” Furthermore, the anonymous letters also contained forged documents and manipulated photographs. “These acts have significant criminal potential.”
“This is probably a smear campaign,” he says at the request of the OÖN of the Upper Austrian State Criminal Police Office. The anonymous writer had already caused a lot of unnecessary work with his ads. Because investigations had shown “that everything went well at the company in Gunskirchen, illegal behavior could never be found.”
It was also investigated in the Czech Republic due to the allegation that slag, a waste product of steel production, had been disposed of in violation of regulations. But even there, the investigations failed, attorney Lindner emphasized.
Proceedings against voestalpine, which is said to have commissioned disposal company Gunskirchner, were also suspended, the Linz prosecutor’s office reported yesterday. The accusations were “completely unfounded”. The St. Pölten public prosecutor’s office also dismissed the proceeding for “negligent and environmentally hazardous treatment of waste”.
It is unknown who is behind the slander. The writer must have a “good knowledge” of the waste industry and the legislation. It could be a competitor, researchers suspect. Information to the LKA (059133 40 3444) and to the company RLS-tech (07246 2060) will also be treated confidentially upon request.
