Trump nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021 by a Norwegian parliamentarian. Christian Tybring-Gjedde of the populist Progress Party on Wednesday referred to US broadcaster Fox News to justify Trump’s key role in the historic peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) the previous month.

Trump should be honored for the “groundbreaking deal” that has long started normalizing relations between warring countries, Gjedde said.

Israel and the United Arab Emirates, along with the United States, announced on August 13 that they would begin “a complete normalization of their relations.” As part of the agreement, Israel temporarily gave up its plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.

For this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, the new winner is always announced in October, the nomination comes too late, as reported by dpa. At the end of February, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that 317 candidates had been nominated before the deadline.
