The 26-year-old Austrian had written in the summit book on August 23 that he had accidentally killed someone and could not speak to anyone about it. However, he omitted his name. To clarify the case, the Tyrolean State Criminal Police Police launched an appeal to the media: The author and other witnesses should contact us.
That also happened the next day: The 26-year-old contacted investigators and said he had written the ominous entry. He denied having actually committed a crime.
“Based on the current status of the investigation, it can be assumed that the man acted hastily,” Tyrolean police said Wednesday. The man stated that he wanted to “write a slightly different entry in the book to the usual banal things,” reports Christian Viehweider from the press office of the Tyrolean police department in an interview with ORF.
The Innsbruck prosecutor’s office will now judge the matter under criminal law.
